When the time came and Saddam Hussein was led to the scaffold, the American soldiers asked him for his last wish.
His answer surprised everyone. He calmly said, “I want my coat. Give it to me so I can wear it.”
The soldiers were confused and asked why he wanted a coat when he was about to die. Saddam replied with words that became famous:
“It is very cold today in Baghdad, and I do not want my body to shiver from the cold. I don’t want my people to think that their leader is trembling with fear in the face of death.”
He chose to face death with dignity, refusing to show even the slightest sign of weakness — whether from fear or from the freezing cold.
